Val Garland

Val Garland is a make-up artist working in London. Val grew up in Bristol, then emigrated to Sydney Australia, where she trained as a hair colourist. It was her interest in colour that led her from hair into make-up, where soon after she was a leading practitioner in Australia.
In 1994 Garland moved back to London where over the last two decades has worked on various projects ranging from highly conceptual catwalk shows for Alexander McQueen to commercial celebrity shoots with Kate Moss, as well as collaborating on publications such as Vogue, Dazed & Confused, i-D and Visionaire.

I saw this Photo which Val Garland created the makeup, I thought this had a contemporary Elizabethan look to it as the skin is very pale and the cheeks are very pink with the majority of the makeup on the apples these makeup trends was very typical for Elizabethan makeup. What makes it contemporary is the obviously the hair and I also think the fact the eyebrows are quite bold and also the lips, these things give it the contemporary twist. I absolutely love the simplicity of the makeup and how the hair is the main feature.
