Practicing my Contemporary Elizabethan Makeup Design
Design 1
I decided to have a practice with two of my favorite Face Chart looks. I'm really happy with how this look came out, I personally think this will be my final look out of my other design. I really like the simplicity of this makeup. When I was practiced I found it was very quick to achieve, the only thing slightly time consuming would be the blocking of the eyebrows.
Contemporary and Elizabethan Portrait Reminder
I also took inspiration from my Elizabethan Portrait which I found at the National Portrait Gallery in London. I really liked the pale lips and pale cheek colour so incorporated this into my Face Chart design. From my contemporary Portrait I really liked her extremely contoured cheekbones and her slightly strong brow, so I decided to include some heavy contouring and I also exaggerated the eyebrow by creating a strong black line. If you look closely at the Portrait of Elizabeth her eyes are very plain and you can see that her nose looks slightly contoured this could probably just how to the painter painted it, so I decided to exaggerated the contoured nose and also the eye shadow.
Evaluation of my First Attempt:
I started off by blocking out my eyebrows as I knew this would probably be the longest thing about my design as you need to make sure they are dry before putting on any of the other makeup on. As my eyebrows are quite thin I found I only needed two layers of the glue, I also found I didn't need to be prefect as the black line substituting my natural eyebrow helps to distracted from any mistakes. I think next time I'd use the same colour I contoured the nose with on the cheeks as I think it would pull it together better. Next time I'd definitely want to extend the white foundation down the neck and onto the ears as it will make it seamless.
Design 2
This is my second favorite design out of my Face Charts. When I had my one on one session with Kat she really liked this look and challenged me to see how it would look like on my face. I'm so happy with how it turned out, however the only downfall was how long it took as it I found I spent about 45 minutes just on the eye shadow and perfecting the lines.

I was heavily inspired by the work Makeup Artist Val Garland created for a Master Class for MAC Cosmetics in 2013. I loved the use of strong black lines so I incorporated this into my design by underling the eyebrow which help to enhance the whiteness of the eyebrow. Again I took inspiration from this look from the lips as it enhances her cupid's bow.
What makes my design Elizabethan is the extremely pale skin and also the blocked out eyebrows which was typical for the Elizabethan era. Also the pale pink blusher on the apples of the cheeks makes it Elizabethan.
Evaluation of my First Attempt:
Again the eye brow blocked took awhile a to dry which would mean less time for the rest of the makeup. I also found the eye makeup took far too long as I had to be precise, I did struggle on this as I wanted it to be perfect and I'm not sure whether my partner would have enough patience to execute it as it is very fiddly and requires lots of practice and brushes. I personally think this would take far too long and we only have two hours.
Conclusion
I've decided to use the first Face Chart as it will take the least time and I personally think it would be a perfect New Elizabethan look as it has a perfect balance of Elizabethan Makeup and Contemporary makeup. It also involves all the techniques I've learnt in class for example blocking out the eyebrows.
