Katherine Minola is a successful, outspoken politician, tipped for the leadership of her party. The only problem is her appalling temper. It terrifies everyone around her, including her hapless parlimentary aide Tim Agnew. And it's kept her a single virgin for the whole of her 38 years. Katherine is a workaholic, ball-breaking politician, tipped for the leadership of her party. There's nothing feminine or touchy-feely about her - she's blunt and rude, very unlike her glamorous mother and sister. Unfortunately for Kate's political ambitions, the electorate like their politicians married. So when eccentric aristocrat Petruchio appears on the scene searching for a wife, he's seems like the perfect answer. But with both of them used to getting their own way, their relationship is bound to be an explosive one.

I think Katherine Minola is very reflective of an Elizabethan Queen as there is a particular scene right at the start of the film where she is walking very aggressively through the house of Parliament and pushing past the other other politicans which is very similar to the film 'Elizabeth I' where Queen Elizabeth is walking through her palace and all her subjects are making way for her which is just what Katherine is doing too, however I think everyone is quite scared of Katherine. Another similarity is the Parliament as it's much like the Palace in which Elizabeth in the film lives in, in the Parliament in the background you can see a lot of red fabric for example curtains, carpet and furniture red is a very royal colour and was very expensive in the Elizabethan era. Another reason why this film can be compared to the film 'Elizabeth I' is that everyone wants Katherine to marry which is exactly the same predicament Elizabeth was in. Katherine's hair is slightly Elizabethan as she has a off center parting where as in the Elizabethan era women's hair parted in the center.
